What Residential Asphalt Paving Actually Involves

A lot of people picture asphalt paving as pouring black stuff on dirt and rolling it flat. The visible part of the process is about 20 minutes. The rest of it is what determines whether your pavement lasts 20 years or cracks in five.

Good asphalt paving starts underground. The base has to be graded properly, compacted to the right density, and free of soft spots before a single shovel of asphalt goes down. If the base moves, the asphalt moves with it. That is where most early failures come from. We have repaved jobs done by contractors who skipped those steps, and the difference is visible in every project.

Once the base is right, we place asphalt at the correct thickness for the intended use and compact it to industry standards. The edges, transitions, and joints get the same attention as the center. Those are the spots that crack first when they are not handled carefully.
